God hate Divorce
“I hate divorce,” says the LORD God of Israel, “and I hate a man’s covering himself with violence as well as with his garment” Malachi 2:16, says the LORD Almighty. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith.
Unfortunately there are many who still claim adherence to biblical standards of morality, yet they have overwhelmingly capitulated to the divorce culture. To a great extent, these believers accept what amounts to ‘serial monogamy’–faithfulness to one marital partner at a time. Many worry about offending members of their congregations who are divorced or unmarried.” They say they are going to err on the side of compassion, or they make Jesus’ teachings on divorce irrelevant because they only apply to the culture of the day. Both are wrong and extremely dangerous.
There are times when scripture requires some interpretation, but in this area Jesus taught very clearly. So often we apply correct biblical interpretations (hermeneutics) when studying, than when we come across some politically incorrect subject we throw away these rules for convenience. So I ask you to use the same rules here as you did when you came to the understanding of our resurrection from the dead, Jesus atonement for sins, and so many other areas. You correctly took them at face value, as you should. Unless it is a parable or prophecy we are to take them for what they say.
-Don’t read between the lines and try to find some hidden meaning.
1 Corinthians 4:6 Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other.
Paul taught that the Gospel is supposed to be presented straightforward Galatians 2:14 But when I (Paul) saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, “If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews?.
-Don’t let your culture effect the interpretation, as God taught clearly that He doesn’t change.
Colossians 2:8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the traditions of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.
Malachi 3:6 “For I am the LORD, I do not change;
-Don’t let your feelings, or your own understanding effect what you believe. God’s ways are not our ways.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.
Isaiah 55:7-9 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. “ For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. “ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
The bible gives four reasons when divorce and remarriage is acceptable in God’s eye’s.
1) If a person is widowed.
1 Timothy 5:14 Therefore I desire that the younger widows marry, bear children, manage the house, give no opportunity to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
Romans 7:1-7 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man.
2) If your partner commits sexual immorality.
Matthew 5:31-32 “Furthermore it has been said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.
Matthew 19:9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.
The Greek word for sexually immorality is Porneia, which includes: harlotry (including adultery, incest, bestiality), fornication (any sex outside marriage), figuratively idolatry.
3) If your UNBELIEVING spouse leaves you.
1 Corinthians 7:10-16 Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband. But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to divorce his wife. But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace. For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?.
4) If the divorce was before you where a Christian.
