Atheist striking with billboards against Christians
Sacramento television Channel 3 (KCRA) has published a very touching article for local christians.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) —Fifty-five atheist billboards will dot the Sacramento region on Monday, featuring area residents accompanied by short quotes on why they are non-believers.
One message says, “Morality doesn’t require religion.”
Another states, “Studying the Bible made me an atheist.”
“It’s about coming out of the closet. We’re encouraging other freethinking people – atheists, agnostics, humanists – to speak up, especially this time of year when we’re so inundated with the Jesus stories and the music when you shop,” said Judy Saint, president of the Greater Sacramento chapter of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
Saint celebrates the holidays, but said people also often feel pressured to celebrate God during this time.
“We’re putting up our billboards just because (we’re) such a maligned minority. It’s to speak up and come out of the closet and say there are some of us here who really don’t have that belief, even if that’s all we say,” Saint said.
Rev. Michael Kiernan is the pastor of the Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Carmichael and works closely with various religious groups.
“I don’t take it as offensive so much as it doesn’t make sense trying to do a thing like that,” he said.
“I don’t know that you have to go to these lengths to push it down people’s throats by trying to put it out there, where there’s no way to escape it,” Kiernan continued.
He added that the money for the signs would be better spent on charity.
“We are confident God is going to be OK. God has been around forever and these things come and go. This too shall pass,” he said.
The billboards will be up for at least one month.
All christians needs to wake up and act in this last days. Do not be silent.
Please pray for Sacramento and especially for California.
